Unclog Your Sink or Shower Drain Naturally — No Harsh Chemicals Needed

Slow drains are annoying — and they only get worse over time. Hair, soap residue, and everyday grime can cause water to trickle away instead of flowing freely.
Instead of grabbing harsh chemical cleaners that can damage your pipes or harm the environment, you can fix the problem with a simple, natural method using ingredients you probably already have at home.

Step 1 – Remove Any Visible Debris
If you can see hair or buildup near the top of the drain, use a gloved hand or a small tool to pull it out. This makes the next steps more effective.

Step 2 – Pour Baking Soda Into the Drain
Measure about ½ cup of baking soda and carefully pour it directly into the drain. Baking soda helps break down buildup and neutralize odors.

Step 3 – Add White Vinegar
Follow the baking soda with ½ cup of white vinegar. The fizzing reaction will help loosen grime and push it through the pipes.

Step 4 – Cover and Wait
Place a drain cover or even a small plate over the drain to keep the reaction below the surface. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Step 5 – Flush With Hot Water
Boil a kettle or heat water until very hot (but not boiling if your pipes are PVC). Pour it down the drain to flush away the loosened debris.

Step 6 – Maintain Your Drains
Repeat this process once a month to prevent clogs from forming in the first place.
